Liquid Roofing & Waterproofing

Liquid waterproofing is the answer where a sheet membrane is not the best fit. Applied cold as a resin and cured into a seamless, fully bonded layer, it follows every upstand, outlet and awkward shape with no joints at all. We install PMMA and polyurethane systems for balconies, terraces, complex roofs and detailing across South Yorkshire.

What is liquid waterproofing?

A liquid system is exactly what it sounds like: a waterproof resin applied cold with a roller or brush, usually with a reinforcing fleece embedded into it, that cures into one continuous, seamless membrane. Because it is bonded across the whole surface and has no laps or joints, water has nowhere to get under it.

It is applied cold, with no naked flame, which makes it safe on occupied buildings, balconies and roofs close to other structures. The two systems we use most are PMMA and polyurethane, each suited to different situations.

When liquid systems are the right choice

Liquid comes into its own where a sheet membrane struggles. That means roofs with a lot of penetrations, pipes and upstands, intricate detailing, and small or awkwardly shaped areas where cutting and welding membrane is fiddly. It is also the go-to for balconies, terraces and walkways, where a trafficable, slip-resistant finish is needed.

It is excellent for overlays too. A liquid system can often be applied over a sound existing roof or detail to add a fresh, seamless waterproof layer without a full strip, and it bonds to most substrates, including concrete, felt, asphalt and metal.

PMMA or polyurethane?

PMMA resins cure remarkably fast, often within an hour, which means a roof or balcony can be back in use the same day, and they can be applied in cold weather when other systems cannot. They are ideal where speed and a rapid return to service matter, or for winter work.

Polyurethane systems are prized for their flexibility and value over larger, simpler areas. At the survey we recommend the system that fits the job, the conditions and the budget, and we explain why.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a liquid roof last?

A correctly installed liquid system has a long service life and carries a manufacturer guarantee, often 20 years or more depending on the system specified.

Can liquid waterproofing go over my existing roof?

Often, yes. Liquid systems bond to most sound substrates, including felt, asphalt, concrete and metal, so an overlay can add a fresh seamless layer without a full strip.

Is liquid waterproofing good for a balcony or terrace?

Yes. It is one of the best options for balconies, terraces and walkways, finished with a trafficable, anti-slip surface that is both watertight and usable.

Can you apply it in winter?

PMMA systems cure fast and can be applied in cold conditions, so winter is not a barrier. We match the system to the weather and the timescale.

Why choose liquid over single ply?

For complex, heavily detailed or small roofs, and for balconies, liquid often outperforms sheet membrane because it is seamless and follows every shape. For large, simple roofs, single ply is usually the better value. We advise on the right fit.
